HP has announced it will cut 9,000 IT services jobs over a number of years while investing in fully-automated datacentres.

In the article on the ZDNET website, the company are reported to be cutting the posts as part of the, "continuing consolidation of EDS, now called HP Enterprise Services."

The article also reports that Ann Livermore, HP Executive Vice President, said that, "HP will create 6000 jobs in sales and global delivery centre.  The net loss of jobs will be 3000."

A separate article, Mark Hurd (HP Chief Executive) is quoted and reported as saying he, "wants to position HPas an IT utility company that can appeal to chief information officers."  It goes on:

"Now that HP has made EDS more efficient, Hurd said the company can do things "with R&D that we wanted to do from the beginning, but had to get the business to this state". HP will consolidate its datacentres for its services unit, standardise and automate, said Hurd. The effort will save money, but also give HP a more efficient platform to grow. "
