HP demonstrates collaboration across multiple business units Print E-mail

HP used the International Petroleum Week conference in London to announce collaboration with Shell, reports Ovum.

Ovum report that the collaboration will see HP and Shell, "developing a wireless sensing system to acquire on-land seismic data," which will help oil companies, "to create high-resolution images of geological structures that may contain oil reserves."

This provides a platform for integration between HP's business units, with the Imaging and Printing Group providing core functionality developed in its sensing technology, as used in print cartridges.

The article reports that IPG produce the sensors for the collaboration, HP Labs have developed the sensing technology for on-land seismic sensing, ProCurve (the networking division) have provided wireless connectivity, HP Enterprise Services have carried out project management and integration and the whole thing runs on HP hardware.  This makes it a demonstration of how HP can work together with customers to provide a solution.
